Yesterday was a very important day for me. It's was son Caleb's birthday. For me it's much more than a day for cake and ice cream and presents. It's not just about Caleb turning a year older, it's my "WHY" day.
On June 17th 1987, the day Caleb was born, I was faced with a life-changing decision. I had to decide whether or not to go back to teaching that fall and leave this precious little boy in the hands of someone else for the majority of my waking hours.
Jobs weren't easy to come by in my town and I knew if I left, I may never be hired as a teacher again. But my calling as a mother was the stronger pull. Twenty-one years later, I look back without a single regret. Just as one door closes, another opens. Shortly after quitting my job, I was introduced to network marketing.
As I started my new business, I was uncertain and nervous about redefining myself and what I stood for. But one thing I became crystal clear about right away, quitting was not an option! Every time doubt crept in, I looked into my little boy's face and reviewed my options, which always drove me back to the phone with a renewed sense of purpose.
Do you have a "WHY" day?
Establishing your "WHY" is the single most important step in starting and succeeding in your home-based business. Why? Because one thing I can promise you, there will be challenges! The road to success is not without potholes!
However, with a keen desire and focused dedication, you can learn to smoothly navigate any distraction in your path. In fact, you'll even learn to view the bumps as opportunities to learn and grow!
Here's Your Home Play:
-[> Determine your "WHY" Today!
Get A Notebook and make it a nice one that you'll enjoy working in. This will become your road map to success and will be with you through the duration of your journey.
Find a nice quiet place without any distractions. Prepare to spend at least 30 minutes on this exercise. Don't worry about how your answers sound. Just free flow write. This is fun and can be very revealing!
Ask Yourself the following questions and write them down:
-[> 1.) If I didn't have to work for a living what would I love to do?
-[> 2.) If I were given $10 million dollars (tax free!) what would I do with it? (Of course you'd pay the bills, but after that) No limits here, write it ALL down!
-[> 3.) If I just found out I had six (healthy) months to live, what would I do with the rest of my life (your "Bucket List")?
Identifying Your "WHY" Helps You Define Your True Purpose In Life!
Now try to determine the essence of these desires. Ask yourself, "if I did this, or had that, what would it bring to me?" These thoughts should reveal to you the lifestyle you want and the type of person you aspire to be.
When you know your purpose, you can put passion behind it. When you move forward with passion, there's no stopping you and others will be attracted to follow you! Therein lies the key to success in your home-based business!
Make a commitment to yourself to pursue your life's purpose and create the lifestyle you want. Become the person you desire to be. Your purpose and the passion that flows from it, is what will empower you, no matter how bumpy the road gets! I know, I've been there!

Have a happy "Why" day! ~PowerGal :-)
Hi Tracy :-)
What a great illustration! You have always said that you quit teaching to be home with your children - Now Caleb has grown up to be a handsome, mature young man - It is obvious that you made the right decision.
I will get a notebook and do just as you recommened - thanks for the tip!

Tracy
You are so right on with this post.
I've started and closed 17 businesses before the age of 25.
Now that I found "the" business not just "a" business --- success just can't help but finding me.
No matter what comes my way I will push foward because I am clear this is "the" business, this is "the" purpose for my life.
Thanks

I love this exercise. It doesn't matter if it's been done before, everytime I start a new project or business, I want to remember to get clear why I'm doing it; then more importantly, what the benefits are to me.
I found a great notebook that has the title "Wanderlust, Travel Journal" I'm writing my "why's" today. Thanks for the insight!
